1970 World Cup Mexico

Brazil won their third World Cup, dominating Italy in the final. The «canarinha» had a perfect tournament, winning every match.

The Brazilian team was full of stars, considered one of the best National teams in sport’s history. Pele, Carlos Alberto, Gerson, Rivelino and Jairzinho were some of the players representing their country. Italy also played with football legends in Dino Zoff, Luigi Riva, Gianni Rivera and Giacinto Facchetti.

Federal Republic of Germany finished third, beating Uruguay one goal to nil. The Germans lost in the semifinals against Italy, in a match considered as the «Game of the Century», for its intensity, great level of play, quantity of goals scored, and the memorable performance of Franz Beckenbauer. Beckenbauer dislocated his shoulder at the 67th minute after being knocked down by Pierluigi Cera on the edge of the Italian penalty area, playing most of the game with a sling in his arm.

England could not repeat as word champions, losing against the Federal Republic of Germany in the quarterfinals.

Peru had an outstanding performance at the World Cup, reaching the quarterfinals, losing to Brazil. Teófilo Cubillas was their leading man, scoring five goals during the competition.
